- To cultivate talent for Myanmar society and the University for Life and Peace, Ling Jiou Mountain has established the "Implementation Guidelines for the University for Life and Peace Myanmar Student Scholarship" (hereinafter referred to as "these guidelines") to promote a secure educational environment for students from Taiwan and Myanmar.
- Eligibility for Application
I. Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
(1) The term "Myanmar student" refers to individuals with Myanmar nationality or those who meet the criteria specified in Articles 2 and 3 of the "Regulations for Overseas Chinese Students Returning to Study in Taiwan" established by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of China. These applicants must be currently enrolled in bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral programs at universities recognized by the Ministry of Education. This does not include students attending various levels of tutoring or continuing education institutions, distance learning universities, exchange students, or those in continuing education programs for bachelor’s or master’s degrees designed for returning students. Students in specialized programs for foreign or overseas Chinese students (such as overseas Chinese special classes or international specialized classes) or joint industry-academic programs are also not eligible for this scholarship.
(2) Students enrolled at the University for Life and Peace (ULP) or the Life and Peace Professional Education Centre (LPPEC, hereinafter referred to as "the Centre") established in Myanmar.
- Types of Scholarships
- Talent Development Type:
This is divided into two categories: General Scholarships and Research Scholarships, with applicants as follows:
- General Scholarships: For undergraduate students, preparatory students, and students in certificate and licensing programs (limited to those from Myanmar).
- Research Scholarships: For master’s and doctoral students.
(2) Industry-Academic and Educational Cooperation Type:
Institutions of higher education, vocational schools, enterprises, and legal entities that have signed a cooperation intention with the Preparatory Office of the University for Life and Peace (hereinafter referred to as "the Preparatory Office") or the Centre may propose project applications to the administering unit.
(3) Application Conditions:
This scholarship is awarded once per semester as a principle. Except for the first semester of the first year of enrollment, applicants must have a conduct score of 80 or above (inclusive) for the semester and no minor offense disciplinary records (inclusive) or above. If the school does not provide conduct scores, applicants should submit other related academic achievements or ask teachers or recommenders to provide an explanation in the recommendation letter. Aside from research scholarships, academic performance must meet at least one of the following criteria:
(1) Rank in the top 50% of the class.
(2) Average semester academic score of 75 or above.
(3) GPA of 3.0 or above or equivalent evaluation methods, with the conversion based on the assessment table of the school attended.
(4) Other exceptional performances approved by the administering unit.
(5) Those applying under the industry-academic and educational cooperation type are not restricted by the above criteria.
- Implementation Method for Scholarship Recipients, Categories, Quotas, and Amounts
The scholarship amounts are as follows and are subject to annual announcement:
(1) General Scholarships: For undergraduate students, ranging from NT$20,000 to NT$80,000 per semester; for Myanmar students, the amount will be determined by the Centre.
(2) Research Scholarships: Ranging from NT$40,000 to NT$120,000 per semester.
(3) Industry-Academic Cooperation Scholarships: Allocated on a project basis.
- Duration of Scholarships
(1) Preparatory Chinese Language Program: One year.
(2) Talent Development Type: According to the academic years stipulated in the programs or admissions guidelines of the studying department.
(3) Industry-Academic and Educational Cooperation Type: Based on the proposal or contract.
- Receiving Units
The administering units for these guidelines are the Preparatory Office of the University for Life and Peace in Taiwan and the Life and Peace Professional Education Centre in Yangon, Myanmar. Applicants may only submit applications to one of these units; duplicate applications will be considered as a single entry.
- Application Procedures
(1) Application Dates: For talent development scholarships, general and research scholarships, from September 1st to October 31st, and from February 1st to March 31st each year. Industry-academic cooperation scholarships will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. The Centre in Myanmar will determine applications for that region.
(2) Application Documents: Applications must be submitted by mail (one physical copy and one electronic copy) to the administering unit, or in accordance with the latest announcements from the Preparatory Office or the Centre.
(A) General Scholarships
- Scholarship application form.
- Copy of student ID or course enrollment confirmation, Myanmar ID (or passport) copy, or proof of overseas Chinese student status.
- Original academic (including conduct) transcript (for first-year undergraduate students, use the grades from the last two semesters of high school, which in Myanmar would be G12) or course completion certificate, and original enrollment certification.
- Recommendation letter from the Chair of the same department or institute, or from the supervisor of any internships, projects, or educational programs the applicant participated in.
- Proof of not receiving other public funding or scholarships.
- Self-introduction.
(B) Research Scholarships
- Scholarship application form.
- Copy of student ID, Myanmar ID (or passport) copy, or proof of overseas Chinese student status.
- Original academic (including conduct) transcript (for master's or doctoral first-time applicants, provide the total transcript from undergraduate or graduate studies) and original enrollment certification.
- Research proposal or progress report.
- Recommendation letter from the thesis advisor (along with a consent form from the advisor). If an advisor has not been selected, a recommendation letter may be provided by the department chair or a full-time faculty member, or from the supervisor of any internships, projects, or educational programs the applicant participated in.
- Self-introduction.
(C) Industry-Academic and Educational Cooperation
- Proposal application form.
- Proposal plan.
(3) Review Method
(A) Review of application documents (60%).
(B) Interview (40%; conducted as necessary).
(4) Conditions for Continuing Scholarship
The scholarship will be terminated if any of the following occurs:
(1) The student withdraws during the academic year.
(2) The student receives other scholarships that involve a service obligation.
(3) Application materials are found to contain false information upon verification.
(4) The student is prosecuted for illegal activities related to civil or criminal cases.
(5) The student violates the purpose of the scholarship as determined by the administering unit.
7. Other Matters
(1) The list of award recipients will be published on the University for Life and Peace or Centre website in addition to individual notifications.
(2) To encourage award recipients to share their learning experiences and give back to society, the administering unit will periodically invite award recipients to participate in educational, networking, or related promotional and charitable activities organized by the Preparatory Office or the Centre.
(3) The administering unit reserves the right to make the final decision on whether to grant scholarships.
(4) These guidelines may be revised and announced periodically.
